How to Prevent Colorectal Cancer With a Good Diet

Preventing colorectal cancer and your diet are most likely the same.

As you all know, our colon and rectum are the ones responsible for the nutrient absorption, water management and elimination of wastes.

You really don’t need specialists to tell you about garbage in and out. Let’s just hear what the experts have to say.

In the studies of colorectal cancer prevention and diet, it has discovered that red and processed meats were its major contributor. Unfortunately, many doctors in France were not convinced with its “existing evidence” and decided to do a more comprehensive study.

They started to follow 478,040 men and women for almost five years, before they finally concluded that red and processed meat is positive as cause for colon cancer, and eating fish is can reduced a person’s risk. [Journal of the National Cancer Institute, Vol. 15;97:906-16]

This is not the only available research involving omega 3 oil, explaining that fish is a factor in reducing colorectal cancer.

Doctors that were associated with New York University Women’s Health Study monitored 14,727 women for 7 years. They have found “a progressive decline in the risk for colorectal cancer by increasing intake of fish and shellfish.”

Aside from that, they found that women who are inversely proportionate to the amount of calcium they consume also take a similar decline in its risk. This would mean that, a woman who takes most calcium will get the lowest risk.

But, they were not that confident about the red meat connection to the colorectal cancer as how our friends in France were. Actually, the doctors in NYU said that, the issue of associated of red meat to colorectal cancer “remains unclear.” [Nutrition & Cancer, Vol. 28:276-81]

Another study came out in Harvard that suggests that it’s not about the red meat and fats, but our “western” lifestyle which causes the problem.

They’ve mention that obesity, physical inactivity, a diet low in vegetables and fruits, while high in red meat and processed foods all contributes to one denominator of this lifestyle, which is high levels of insulin in the blood!

Researchers have explained that elevated blood insulin will “promote colon carcinogenesis” because insulin is a “growth factor” that will cause cellular division of epithelial cells in the colon. [Cancer Causes & Control, Vol. 6, No. 2:164-79]

Wondering what to do to the colorectal cancer prevention and diet? It’s easy as a pie, just don’t eat the pie.

Always stick with whole foods, such as vegetables, fresh fruits, whole grains and fiber rich foods. Only use unprocessed oils, lean meat, low fat dairy and lots of water.

The studies suggests that it is very important to cut way back on alcohol, start practicing stress management and be sure to exercise on a regular basis.

As you follow these guidelines, it will not only reduce your risk in colorectal cancer, but it includes other cancers as well, adding heart disease and diabetes, too. You will be able to improve your vim, vigor and vitality as well.
